Where In The World Are We?
The Ryukyu Islands, called the Nansei Islands (南西諸島 - Nansei-shotō) (which literally means Southwest Islands) are a chain of Japanese islands in the western Pacific Ocean at the eastern limit of the East China Sea. They stretch southwest from the island of Kyūshū to the island of Taiwan.
The Ryukyu Islands are administratively divided into Satsunan Islands to the north, belonging to Kagoshima Prefecture, and Ryukyu Shotō to the south, belonging to the Okinawa Prefecture, Japan (Yoron Island is the southernmost island of the Satsunan Islands and Yonaguni the southernmost of the Ryukyu Islands). The largest of the islands is Okinawa Island.
The islands have a subtropical climate with warm winters and hot summers. Precipitation is very high, and is affected by the rainy season and occasional typhoons.
The archipelago is home to the Ryukyuan languages. The original dialects called "Hogen" are native to each island and distinct from one another.

Welcome to the "Ryukyu Is" TV show web-site. Feel free to browse the various pages and leave a message or two. We would really appreciate your support!
Here's what we are up to... This current video project is based on a show in the late 80's on OTV (CH 10 Okinawa TV) called "Ken's Late Night". The formula that was used for that program has again been revived and slightly revised for 2011... "What is it you ask?" Well... here's the answer. The majority of cast and crew of the "Ryukyu Is" TV Show are foreigners. The producers figured that, "If you want foreigners from around the world to visit the Ryukyu Islands, then it would be logical to have foreigners pick and introduce those places that they enjoyed the most and want to tell others about." So how's that sound? And yes... It's just that simple... We love the Ryukyus so much that we decided we need to do a show about it and promote the islands to the World.
"We want you to come to the Ryukyus... we promise you an unforgettable Journey!"
